--Jay Fisher
Every successful dedicated pursuit has a mission, a direction that plainly states their purpose and place in their field, and this is mine. This is the guiding principle that I live by, every day, and the defining factor of my professional and artistic knife pursuits.
What does it mean? There are five words that are specific and distinctive in this statement, words that anchor the foundation of what I do here in my studio and in the world of knives. The words are: committed, completely, clearly, best, and world.
Committed: My level of commitment is extremely high. This is much more than a simple job to me; it is a lifelong passion, career, and dynamic and powerful profession. On this very website, you can see my level of commitment; from the hundreds of knife designs, pages, and descriptions to the thousands of large, clear, and substantial photographs of knives created and sold for over three decades, it is easy to see my dedication. I am committed to the progress of the new makers who have created collaborative works with me, and to educate and develop fine handmade knives in the public and in our nation's official record. Add to that the voluminous descriptions, definitions, illustrations, and plain talk about all the areas and facets of my art, continually updated and offered for free to the world on this website, my commitment is vibrant and well-defined.
Completely: I have always and will continue to develop and create the works as complete units. I've always believed that sheaths, stands, cases, accessories, and embellishment are the province of the maker of the knife, and I will continue to offer and develop these as they are paramount to the use and value of the knife. Only through the direct participation of the maker of the knife will these facets unify and elevate the knife to a complete and cohesive piece with a reliable and dependable use and value. The creativity, fine workmanship, and attention to detail of all of these components and areas add to the knife as a whole, and this is one of the driving objectives of my profession. All components are commensurate, appropriate to the scope of the project, and a seamless idea brings them to realization and triumph for my clients and patrons. Appropriately, the photography, detailed descriptions, archival information, and record also complete each work, whether it is for a utility knife, a combat weapon, or a fine work of museum grade art. The level of complexity extends to professional knife consulting for companies, agencies, and representatives that need my professional services and experience.
Clearly: By far, this is the most illustrative and clear web site on the internet by a singular maker in the world. I don't dance around the individual facets of knives and professional knife making. On hundreds of pages, I give clear, detailed, and open reasons about why I make knives the way I do. I plainly illustrate the advantages and disadvantages of particular choices of styles and designs, steel, process, fittings, materials, finish, and accessories. I offer large, clear, and plentiful photographs detailing each new piece, with rich, substantial, and focused specifics. I answer my client's needs in distinct and plain language, offer accurate comparisons and worthwhile options. This clarity permeates the knife itself, with crisp and clean styles, materials, and finishes, with accessories in dedicated and proven useful purpose. I plainly educate and inform my clients and any interested person who wishes to learn more about fine handmade and custom knives on this very website.
Best: It is my goal to offer the best knives possible within the range and budget of each project. This is why I used the finest high alloy tool steels made today heat treated to the absolute pinnacle of performance. This is why I offer the most superlative finishes possible, the most accurate fit, the widest variety of designs, the most excellent fitting materials and unsurpassed premium handles in both substance and geometry. I strive to create the finest sheaths, stands, cases, embellishment, and accessories, each suited to my client's individual needs, goals, and investment. I give my clients the widest options and the most complete record, documentation, care, and service for their knives. I do this by listening to their needs and desires for the best knife for their interest or use, and work with them to achieve this goal. I'm grateful to know that I have some of the best clients in the world, the finest military, professional, working, and patrons of fine art. I am thankful for every one of them who have given me the best job in the world. I'm committed to doing my very best for them.
World: The internet has made comprehensible a world of knives, world of commerce, and world of craft and art. My knives are available to the world; I regularly ship knives to many distant lands, make knives for international clientele, and continue to do my best to promote and elevate global interest in knives. The history of our world, our humanity itself is distinctly connected to our knives, and I look to antiquity as well as contemporary influences worldwide to design and develop the most complete, clear, and best handmade and custom knives that I can possibly make.
