(Older/Early Work)

  • Size: Length overall: 7.4" (18.8 cm), Blade Length: 3.25" (8.3 cm), Thickness: .1875" (.48 cm)
  • Weight: Blade: 5.6 oz. Sheath: 3.2 oz.
  • Blade: 440C High Chromium Stainless Tool Steel, Hardened and Tempered to Rockwell C59, mirror polished
  • Fittings/Bolsters: 304 Stainless Steel, mirror polished, hand-engraved
  • Handle: Polished Dumortierite Gemstone
  • Sheath: Gray Lizard Skin Inlaid in Hand-Carved 9-10 oz. Leather Shoulder
  • Knife: "Aurora" is a great knife, a stout, yet comfortable work of edged art. I made the drop-point blade from 440C high chromium stainless tool steel, hollow ground and mirror polished for the greatest service and longevity. The blade has a thick spine, made from 3/16" stock, for great strength and substance. I've fileworked and intense pattern on the spine, my close "heterodyne" pattern, with over 400 hand-cuts on this particular knife! The tang is fully tapered, and two pairs of dovetailed bolsters are mounted, made of 304 high nickel, high chromium stainless steel, chosen for its absolute longevity and beauty. I've hand-engraved a clean, light, and simple leaf and scroll pattern on them. They secure a pair of Dumortierite gemstone handle scales, a tough purple gem with tiny bits of rusty red and spidery veins running throughout, for a very ancient look. The handle has enough mass to counter the lighter blade for great control, and it's large enough between the quillions for four fingers and a comfortable, secure grip.
  • Sheath: The sheath I made for this knife is hand-carved and tooled, a deep purple-black case made from 9-10 oz. leather shoulder, with six teardrop inlays of gray Teju lizard skin. It's hand-stitched with polyester sinew, lacquered and sealed.

Thanks, J. P. !
