  • Knife: The name means bright and cheerful, and this knife fits. This has to be one of the more beautiful knives I've made. The Alegre tanto blade pattern served well, and I added some blade length to bring a more balanced size to this piece. The blade is hollow ground and mirror finished 440C high chromium martensitic stainless steel, for the greatest longevity and value of investment with the highest corrosion resistance of any polished stainless tool steel. The tanto is a tough, strong geometry, with plenty of thickness behind the point. The hollow grind is accurate, clean, crisp, and well matched, with gentle sloping grind terminations and clean lead-off geometry. The blade has full filework, from tip to choil, accurate, clean, and bold. The fully tapered tang is mounted with sculpted and polished bolsters of 304 austenitic stainless steel, which I've meticulously engraved in a medieval pattern, cleanly cut and shaded. I've invested many days on this hand-engraving alone, and it came out beautifully, well worth the time. The engraved design goes well with the intricate Orbicular Amethyst gemstone handle, a colorful play of purple background and white orbs with fine concentric rings, crystalline structures, and healed seams throughout. This is a tough, hard stone polished to a bright gleaming finish. The agate orbs are floating in a bed of purple amethyst gem, beautiful, and all natural in color. I always wonder at the millions of years of geologic process that it takes to create such a gemstone, and the closer you look at it, the more amazing it is. Though I've seen and have some other Orbicular Amethyst, this piece is unique in its pattern and color and character. So there won't be another knife like this one.
  • Sheath: The sheath for this knife had to be a stunner, so I chose multiple blue-gray inlays of frog skin in black, hand-carved 9-10 oz. leather shoulder, hand-stitched and lacquer sealed. The color and pattern of the frog skin compliments the orbicular pattern in the gemstone.
  • A beautiful collector's piece

Thanks, G. D.!
